Exposure ebook, the (mini) review

Last week I posted briefly that Michael Frye ‘s new ebook with Craft & Vision was out. Since I didn’t want to miss the official announcement, I simply put the information out there and didn’t get into specifics regarding the book itself. I wanted to remedy that as soon as possible.

So should you be buying this ebook? How good is it really? Who does it target?

Let me start by saying that this is as good an ebook as they come. In true C&V fashion, it is superbly written and beautifully laid out and presented. Michael presents here a wealth of information largely geared towards the beginner to beginner/intermediate photographer. If you are wondering how to get consistent exposures or how to work your histograms this book is for you. Michael is a fantastic teacher and presents these concepts in a very straight-forward and easy to understand way. He also goes beyond these basic concepts and explains how to apply them to represent your creative vision.

If you are very familiar with these concepts, you may want to take a pass on the ebook, although in my opinion, the photography alone is worth it. Michael’s examples are simply outstanding and the ebook showcases his great talent. Michael also goes through the zone system in some detail ( a section that I found quite interesting myself).

All in all: great photography, great teachings geared mostly towards the beginners. A very solid book. You can’t find a better way to spend $5…

Looking out of Gaudi's Casa Milo in Barcelona

I just wanted to point you to a couple of things going on the interwebs these days, with my name attached to them (yup, there are people who post stuff about me out there…kinda nuts if you want my opinion). Anyhow, here you go:

First, my Sigma Pro Gallery page is now up and running. I look pretty good in my white shirt. Yes I do. (my mom and my wife say I do). You can see it here (the page not the shirt, well the shirt too…).

Second, FstopGear is also featuring me in their “Week in the Life Series”. This is a six episode recounting of a scouting tour I did a couple of years ago in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Episode 1 to 6 are already out. You can start at episode 1 here.

Last but not least, my work (16 images) is featured in the latest issue of the super awesome web photography magazine Camerapixo. My work appears alongside some other fabulous photographers. Hi-Res spreads and really neat page design showcases the photography in a unique way. Check it out here.
