PHOTOGRAPH launch

Other than a couple of rare exceptions (Photolife being one), I have stopped buying photo mags a long time ago. While I really do enjoy the feel of flicking through the pages, I felt taken advantage of. You have to fork out $10-15 for a piece of paper that was half advertising, half rehashed material. I can find all the gear reviews I need on the net, thank you!

Enters PHOTOGRAPH. My friend David Duchemin, just (and I mean just) launched his latest project: a new photography magazine that is ALL content and NO bullshit. While I knew of this project for a while, and while I knew who was on board, I wasn’t really too sure what to expect. However, I have to say the result is simply stunning!

Amazing photography displayed in all its glory:

As an appetizer, PHOTOGRAPH serves up more than what most publications give you in a year: Three outstanding portfolios from some heavy hitters out there. We’re not talking about bozo in his basement here. The first, by amazing landscape photographer Bruce Percy, one of my all time faves, presents his work from Iceland. Nate Parker follows it up with some great black and whites from Acadia and New England. Then, one of my all time heroes, Art Wolfe, the man himself shows us some of his work from Burma and Hokkaido. And as if the images were not enough, you get a short interview of each of these three gentlemen.

And this is the appetizer…

Right after that, the crew at Craft & Vision concocted a wonderful blend of technical and less technical articles by a hole bunch of awesome ladies and gentlemen. Wonderfully written and illustrated articles that are not your usual run of the mill. The likes of JP Caponigro, Chris Orwig, David Duchemin, Andrew Gibson, Nicole Young and many more have some great material that is sure to please just about everyone.

All in All, 130+ pages of beautiful stuff, no BS, no advertising. Just quality content…and it’s all yours for $8. Want to talk about value? Yeah. Exactly.

Now on a last note, a little disclaimer: I have had the privilege to add my name to this amazing lineup of writers and photographers (and I still have to pinch myself to make sure it is not a dream, seriously).

Great to see a new magazine for photographers. If the writing is as direct as the title it should be a great read. Thanks Younes!
