Doublespace – Scandinave les Bains

We are pleased to present the first instalment of the new doublespace feature, a photo/blog collaboration between my partner in crime, Amanda and myself.

On Saturday, thanks to the generous help of Genevieve Payette and her staff, we were thrilled to photograph a space we have long admired, Scandinave les Bains Vieux-Montréal. The 12,000-square-foot spa, located at 71 de la Commune West, was designed by the multi-award-winning Montreal firm Saucier + Perrotte. It is one of four in Canada and the only urban location, a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of Place Jacques Cartier.

In the words of the architects, “the design instills the idea of cool glacial forms and warm volcanic rocks, whose duality is articulated through both the spa’s forms and materials”. We particularly liked the dynamic angles and the clever use of natural and artificial light throughout the space. The minimalist design and organic materials combine to create a harmonious and soothing atmosphere.
