HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I can’t quite believe it, but 2009 is already behind us…I just wanted to thank all of you very much for your support and friendship. I hope that 2010 brings you health and happiness.

January Desktop wallpaper and Calendar
It’s a new year, a new decade, but it’s not like anything will have changed from yesterday. Which is why, I am continuing the now almost year old tradition on this blog to post a monthly desktop wallpaper. Given the popularity of last week’s post “beaming” , I thought I’d reward my faithful readers with another shot from that same morning. Say we’ll call it Beaming II, the return. As usual, you can find it in three sizes to suit your needs.
Beaming
Well, I just knew that if I persevered, this day would happen. Mind you it’s not exactly as I imagined it…instead of a beautiful muse by my side, well, I had…Justin, but nonetheless, the moment was unforgettable. Many things had to come together as we seldom get the right conditions around here: cold enough for fog to form, enough fog to get in the sun’s path, enough sun to peak through the fog and trees. I was busy shooting by the water for some time, then I turned around and realised the sun was about to rise, the fog had moved from the river banks to the inner portions of land…boy was I running like a madman to find the right tree. If you can’t make any sense of this, don’t you worry, it’s me, not you…
Blue Morning
Justin Van Leeuwen and I braved the cold on Saturday morning (close to 20 degrees below) to go make some pictures on the river. The conditions were ideal for hoarfrost and I had just missed an amazing hoarfrost show the day before, so nothing would have stopped me from going out that morning.
Well, the frost wasn’t nearly as impressive as the day before, but as they say, when handed lemons…The conditions were still pretty interesting and we got some interesting images out of it. In the first series of images I am posting today, I was drawn to the blue highlights in the water and the contrast with the white snow and frost in the pre-dawn light.
Just a reminder for those of you interested, when shooting snow, don’t forget to overexpose your images by 1 to 1.5 stops to make sure the snow doesn’t turn dirty gray.
Ughhhhh
When I thought my immune system kicked butt, a nasty sinus infection brought me back to reality. I spent most of the week-end in bed instead of going out and enjoying the beautiful fresh snow we got this week…so in the meantime, I’ll take you a few thousand miles away to the West Coast, for more pleasant weather and thoughts.
