Every now and then, I take it upon myself to browse through my photo archives. The exercise serves three main purposes: 1- bring back some of my favorite memories (isn’t this why I started making pictures in the first place?); 2-clean up the archives, getting rid of crap I missed in the first rounds of culling; and occasionally 3-I stumble on something I may have overlooked or something that didn’t fit my style or mood at the time, but is now back in good stead. Last night was one of those.
On that particular day, I saw some of the most amazing light I’ve ever seen at sunrise. The only problem, instead of materialising right over Castle Mountain which I was intent on shooting, the light showed up where I expected it the least. After wasting precious minutes waiting for it to hit the mountain, I cut my losses and stumbled across the bridge to try and get a decent composition. Obviously, when I was editing, all I could see was that I failed to get some sweet light over Castle mountain, that’s it, that’s all. Though I knew that light was just too good to pass, I just didn’t like any of the last minute comps I could find. Last night, I finally saw the light (I think)…and decided that these two shots would make the cut.
What do you think?

Both are fabulous! It’s amazing the hidden gems we can find in the archives
I prefer the second one. It pulls me in more.
They are both stunning. I am not a morning person, but I’ll say that the light is rarely more spectacular than sunrise!
