I've never been to the Palouse, but I've fallen in love with it via pictures like this. There's something very basic about the rolling hills. My attraction seems almost hard-wired, it's so intense and immediate. Just west of Mariposa, CA, are the soft rolling foothills of the Sierra Nevada. They have brought me to near-tears on occasion for their beauty. I've called them the Palouse of California for good reason.
